Director's Message

“THOU MAN GO HIGH”

The Mountaineering Institute was established at Manali on 16th September, 1961 with an objective of training youth in adventure sports, harnessing their energy for developmental activities, eradicating social evils, providing better sports facilities and training to the sports persons of excellence. Large portion of the population of Himachal Pradesh is constituted by youth and adventure sports lovers and it is essential to provide them adequate opportunities of self expression, self confidence, character building, national unity and integration so as to make them aware of their social responsibility and economic development of the nation.

The main aim of the Institute is to make youth and adventure lovers a powerful instrument to bring about social, cultural and economic change in the country so that the prestigious history and cultural heritage of this nation can be strengthened as a bond of power for building modern India in accordance with their idealism and ambitions besides bringing the name of the state on the international adventure sports map. To achieve this end in the State, country and at international level the Institute is engaged in encouraging and executing adventure sports by organizing detailed programmes based on locally available resources and facilities in collaboration with and courtesy of various voluntary institutions, schools, colleges, universities, defence services and different schemes sponsored by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
